Bus Tracker — Privacy Policy

Bus Tracker (“the app”) helps a school or group bus driver record which children are on the bus and lets the children’s parents/guardians see the bus on a live map and receive arrival, pick-up, and drop-off alerts. This policy explains what we collect, why, and your choices.

Information we collect

• Account information — your email address and a password (stored securely/hashed). Optionally a display name you or your group’s driver enters.
• Children you add — the name you give a child and the stop you assign them to. Parents add their own children; this information is provided by you.
• Location (driver only) — while a driver is running a route, the driver’s device shares the bus’s location, including in the background, so the app can show the bus on a map and estimate arrival times. Each attendance scan records the location where it happened. Parents’ devices do not share their location.
• Route addresses — stop addresses you enter or import.
• Notification token — a device push token so we can deliver alerts.

How we use it

• To show the bus’s live position and route to members of your group.
• To estimate arrival times and send pick-up, drop-off, and “bus approaching” alerts.
• To let members of the same group see who is in the group.

We do not sell your data or use it for advertising.

Who can see your information

Your information is visible only to members of the same bus group (the driver/admin, co-drivers, and parents in that group). The bus’s live location during a run is shown to members of that group. We do not share your information with third parties except the infrastructure providers below.

Service providers

App data is stored using Supabase (database, authentication) and delivered as push notifications via Apple Push Notification service. Driving directions and maps use Apple Maps. These providers process data on our behalf.

Children’s privacy

A child’s name and stop are entered by that child’s parent or guardian for the purpose of bus attendance and alerts. The app is intended to be operated by adults (drivers and parents). We do not knowingly collect information directly from children.

Data retention & deletion

You can delete a child, leave a group, or request deletion of your account and associated data at any time by emailing us. Location pings are only collected while a route is actively running.

Your choices

• Location sharing is only requested for drivers and only during an active run; you can decline or disable it in iOS Settings (alerts will be less precise).
• You can disable notifications in iOS Settings.
